Transitioning into IT without a technical background can seem difficult and even intimidating. However, Natalia Yakovenko’s story shows that it is possible. After completing the manual testing course, Natalia landed her first IT position at Playtech just six months after starting her studies.
We spoke with Natalia about why she chose manual testing, how the training went, and whether the knowledge she gained was enough to successfully pass interviews.
Why did you decide to enroll in a manual testing course?
I had actually been thinking about moving into IT for a long time, but I didn’t have a technical education. Manual testing seemed like the most clear and logical starting point for me.
In this profession, attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to find issues are more important than knowing how to code. During the course, I realized that this field really suits me.
Was the knowledge you gained during the course enough to pass interviews?
Yes, overall it was enough. The course provided a solid foundation:
how to write test cases
how to create bug reports
how to work with tools like Postman and SQL
Of course, interviews were still stressful, but I felt confident because I understood what was being discussed. I also practiced a lot on my own in addition to the course, and that helped a great deal.
What would you advise those who are just planning to start a career in IT?
Many people think you can only get into IT with a technical degree, but that’s not true. Courses give you a strong starting point, and after that, everything depends on perseverance.
It’s very important to practice, create test projects, not be afraid to ask questions, and try going to interviews even without much experience. Step by step, doors begin to open.
